Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh getting coarse deserves a closer look. He hasn’t been haunting the internet enough, nor the slightly paranoid circles of Catholic thought.
Actually, I can think of another way to put it that is closer to Catholic thinking in those circles. It involves only two words, including one that begins with the letter f. Really: why be simply condemnatory when obscene takes it up another notch? Isn’t that what we’re all about these days: elevating to a higher level of English text?
For the record, I didn’t get the memo from the White House on this one. I’m not buying the schtick that’s starting to emerge from the USCCB on this. I didn’t buy FOCA. I didn’t think their objections to the Stupak negotiations were particularly intelligent or thoughtful. And maybe they have good reason to be discouraged today. But after awhile the wolf cry gets a little old and whiny. Even when they use naughty words.
Maybe I’ve been discouraged a lot longer than these guys who have a guaranteed nursemaid situation. Barring, of course, any written or spoken bit of language with “women” and “ordination” between two periods. Bishops and clergy have it made for life, excepting significant moral misconduct on the scale of the f-word. What if they pony up an effort for national health insurance for Catholics? Cover every American on the Barque, and make sure that employers give us our allotment to run with.
If all the bishops have to offer the public discussion on this is outrage, sorry; that’s not good enough. I can get outrage on the Catholic net anytime I want. It’s time to lead, or simply, get the **** out of the way. Fill in your own blank.
Catholic Sensibility 
I’ve been seeing this everywhere on Catholic blogs but I don’t think Obama is anti-Catholic. I think he’s trying his best to help everyone and sometimes that involves stepping on some toes, but I don’t think he has it in for Catholics. I plan to vote for him again.
My 10-year-old daughter came home from religion yesterday and declared she couldn’t vote for Obama because he supports abortion. I’m getting really tired of this. Principle is a luxury of the powerful and well off, and it is getting proven in spades here. The idea that Obama conspired to harm the Catholic Church by setting up an elaborate health care plan that ultimately cost his party in the midterm elections is just so ludicrous, parochial, and myopic that I really can’t understand how a serious person could buy it. It wouldn’t tick me off so much other than that real people would suffer if the Republicans implemented their agenda against the poor, and the bishops and their parlour games are likely to cause that happen. And of course abortion won’t see any significant changes, no matter the parlour games.
Victomhood is what is played with persuasion doesn’t work. Coercion went out with the Inquisition, so “woe is us” is the latest attempt.
90 some odd % of Catholics have declared what they think about the use of contraceptives. And a significant portion have also voted in IVF, IUDs, vasectomies and, yes, abortions.
MZ: you might remind your 10 year old daughter that she is too young to vote – and the wrong gender to have any real say in “religious” matters at any time.
It’s crap like this that’s made me walk away from the Catholic Church. I just couldn’t find God there any more.
The time for wimpy Catholics is over. Will the real men stand up, fight! Get a pair balls!

I suggest reading an account of the Passion or Butler’s Lives of the Saints in order to get a clue about how Christians are supposed to respond to gross injustice by Caesar.
